Fiction writers and journalists who need to provide a fictional name to a character or to an interviewee for privacy reasons often find it difficult to get a believable name for these characters. This little and free program can be very handy for this purpose. It has a huge name and surname database with male and female names.
You can set several parameters to find a suitable name for a given character. First of all, you need to specify the gender of the character (male or female) and his/her age; then you can set the popularity of the first name (popular, average or obscure). You can specify any of these parameters for the surname. Thus, you can create many combinations of names and surnames. The results will appear on the right panel of the interface. On average, the program will generate around ten different names and surnames on any of the combinations.
The only disadvantage of the program is that it only generates names in American English. Also, the popularity parameters are based on American statistics. Other than that, it is a good and interesting program. If you are a writer or a journalist, then it can be useful for you.
